Creating a link between Chicago and Tokyo, Hebru Brantley and I worked closely with the A Bathing Ape team to create a collection bringing to life the artist’s iconic style through the streetwear lens of A Bathing Ape. This capsule collection included a Medicom Bearbrick, graphic tees, and a full zip hoodie.
Hebru’s work finds common ground with the Japanese streetwear brand as they both find inspiration in aviation. The flyboy takes root from the Tuskegee Airmen while A Bathing Ape takes reference from the painted mouths of fighter planes.
As I created the graphic language for the project, this became a key pillar, while the goal remained to create a 1+1=3 scenario where the result is greater than the sum of its’ parts. Maximizing the iconic Bape camo along with Hebru’s signature flyboy goggles.
In addition, created the branding for the collaboration, this took form in a logo branding lock up, that was eventually used as a tshirt graphic along with tags and packaging.
